Youth

The deadline to apply to YouthWorks has passed. Do not worry if you are yet to receive a job placement! All youth who have applied and completed YouthWorks certification will be notified whether they have received a job placement in June.
 





 

Employers

Baltimore City non-profits, government agencies, and businesses can serve as worksites for youth ages 14 to 21 can apply for a summer job through YouthWorks!
 

Non-profits and government agencies are welcome to receive youth summer workers ages 14 - 21 at no charge through YouthWorks as Worksite Hosts. Businesses (as well as non-profits and government agencies) who cover the cost of wages can have youth ages 16 - 21 employed with them through Hire One Youth.

 

Worksite Host

  • In YouthWorks 2017, YouthWorks will have two five-week sessions:
    • Session 1: June 26th to July 28th
    • Session 2: July 10th to August 11th
  • YouthWorks participants are scheduled to work five hours each day (excluding lunch), five days a week, for five weeks giving a total of 125 hours. They earn minimum wage ($9.25 per hour) for their work.
  • All worksite applications must be submitted by April 15st for organizations interested in the 1st session
  • Worksites that want to request specific youth must submit the receipts of these youth to YouthWorks (summerjobs@oedworks.com) by April 7th. Worksites may decline accepting an applicant's receipt.

 

The Worksite Application Process

  • New worksite applicants can submit an application using their current active email address, while returning worksite are encouraged to use the same email they used in previous years.
  • Once an account has been created, worksites must submit:
  • Basic information about your organization
  • Sample job descriptions for each position
  • Work schedules for each position
  • Resume of each staff members that will supervise YouthWorkers
  • If you need to stop working on your application, you can save the information, and return to it later using the same email and password you signed up with
  • You will receive a confirmation email when you have submitted your application

Hire One Youth


The Hire One Youth strategy provides an opportunity for Baltimore’s private-sector employers to help shape the future workforce by interviewing and hiring at least one responsible and motivated 16- to 21-year-old. These job-ready young people are available for summer positions through the YouthWorks summer jobs program that often lead to part- or full-time year-round employment.

Working with the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development, Greater Baltimore Committee President and CEO Don Fry serves as the Hire One Youth chair and supports Hire One Youth as a solid investment for local businesses.

  • All Hire One Youth participants are screened for skills/interests to match your workplace needs
  • You are given a job coach to ensure the experience is beneficial for all parties.
  • Hire One Youth workers are paid at least the minimum wage of $9.25 per hour for at least 120 hours
  • You can hire and pay the youth directly from your payroll or make a donation of $1500 per job to the Baltimore City Foundation and the City will be employer-of-record and process payroll needs
  • You'll be giving Baltimore City youth the change to explore varied career opportunities, gain essential workplace skills, get a competitive advantage in the workforce, and form valuable relationships with the business community
